story~~
so a week or so ago, when going to what used to be my favorite store, i went and bought a bunch of things, including $10 Haagen Daas, and my final bill came out to about 5,200 ft. I was impatient in the checkout line, and I switched to another, which promptly became slower. I should have known something was wrong, when the lady in front of me got change in 50 ft coins. I gave 10,200 ft to the lady, and just needed a 5,000 bill back. She said some stuff, I didn't understand. She wanted a 500 ft bill from me, and then gave me back a 1,000 ft. I didn't understand what was going on- I was still owed a lot. So I said a bunch about "ut ezer forint" back.
Finally the manager came. She pointed to the camera. I assumed she would be looking at the security camera to see if I actually paid 10,000 ft. I know I did- I even saw the lady put it under the cash register with the rest of the high bills.
I wait, confused, and finally she comes back, and says a lot of stuff to me. An nice elderly gentlemen comes back to me, and tells me he can translate a bit. He ends up telling me the store 'ran out of money', so I'll need to wait for my change.
I think this is ridiculous. I sit there for 10 minutes, my ice cream melting, and finally they give me back 4,000 ft. What happened to the extra 500 ft? I didn't want to argue any more.... so I took it. The manager lady- I think- apologized to me. I then left, never to come back again.
I was longing for America soon after that, hahaha.

Esztergom

2 finals tomorrow! Getting closer and closer to done~~

Goin' to Esztergom. Its about 1 hr 30 outside the city. It has a castle and a huge basilica.

This is near my apartment. Kutya=dog. This is the pole that dogs pee on, the ground is used for another purpose. Very pleasant.

A very interesting cotton-y tree in Esztergom.

The dome.

The skull of Kőrösi Márk.

Scary stairs. They were so narrow but people were going up and down the same way.

Outside.

Castle walls.

Some pasta with sour cream and meat? They were pasta squares. It was odd, to say the least.

Prague- wandering around

I'm done with analysis! Yay!

So Friday it was time to wander around Prague. It was soooo crowded. Most of Europe has a four day holiday because of May Day, so people are of course doing a lot of traveling.

We headed to explore Prague castle.

Magnificence.

This was Franz Kafka's House- where he wrote.

Violent statues.

A copy of the top of the Eiffel Tower. Note the height from the bottom of the hill to the top of this tower is the Eiffel Tower's real height.

On Charles Bridge. It was soo crowded- they were doing construction, 1/5 of it took about an hour to cross. But it was worth it, and after that everything cleared up.

The river.

Amazing cabbage pancakes. I love cabbage.

I love kebabs as well.

On the bridge.

In Old Town Square.

My last morning in Prague, Saturday, I would have an AMAZING brunch- american style (eggs and waffles). I was plenty full for the bus ride back, where I watched 50 first dates, Blow, and also read a lot more of Name of the Rose.

Sunday I would go to Esztergom, a day trip from Hungary.

Kutna Hora's Bone Church

Studying for finals is not fun!

Last Thursday I was in Kutna Hora. I wandered off from the train station and finally found a sign for Kostnice- the name of the ossuary.

Pictures follow. I hope you're not squeamish.

In the train station. Yay america.

Kostnice. Looks unassuming from the outside.

The bone chandelier. Contains every bone of the human body.

A bone coat of arms.

Mmm, snake.

One of the 6 bone pyramids.

An Angel tooting its horn on top of skulls.

Artwork.

Christ's initials.

Why, you may ask, did they do this? Well, during the plague, the cemetary ran out of room to bury the bodies. So they decided to dig the bodies back up to give new room to the plague victims.

It is estimated that 40,000 bodies decorate this ossuary.

Going back to Prague, I had a wonderful dinner which included fried cheese. That was delicious!

Prague- Day 2, part 1- Karlstejn

Ah- what I'd give to be a travelin' again. Now I'm all busy studying for my Functional final on Friday. It seems like ages (less than a week ago!) that I was here.

The train was a 1.5 hr ride from Prague.

I didn't quite know where to go after arriving in Karlstejn, but I just followed the masses. They turned out to be right.

One of the first spectacular views of the castle.

A violent statue.

Inside the castle walls.

Its like DisneyLand!

Looking down the well.

It was hard to resist buying one of these fun collectibles near the castle. There were lots of touristy things nearby, including souvenir shops and a wax museum!

Near the train station. Aah, nature.

It was beautiful. After the hour or so staying there and walking up the hill, I went back to Prague, and caught another train to Kutna Hora.
