Kutna Hora's Bone Church

Studying for finals is not fun!

Last Thursday I was in Kutna Hora. I wandered off from the train station and finally found a sign for Kostnice- the name of the ossuary.

Pictures follow. I hope you're not squeamish.

In the train station. Yay america.

Kostnice. Looks unassuming from the outside.

The bone chandelier. Contains every bone of the human body.

A bone coat of arms.

Mmm, snake.

One of the 6 bone pyramids.

An Angel tooting its horn on top of skulls.

Artwork.

Christ's initials.

Why, you may ask, did they do this? Well, during the plague, the cemetary ran out of room to bury the bodies. So they decided to dig the bodies back up to give new room to the plague victims.

It is estimated that 40,000 bodies decorate this ossuary.

Going back to Prague, I had a wonderful dinner which included fried cheese. That was delicious!
